Heavy, sturdy tool for peeling vegetables, fruits, forming cheese curls / Sharp Safe Practical / Easy to use

Amazon.com Review

With a large, high-carbon, cutlery-grade stainless-steel swivel blade, this heavy, sturdy European-style tool peels fruits and vegetables and forms cheese curls with precision and speed. The peeler has a stylish enamel-like handle, with accent bands of 18/8 stainless steel polished to a mirror finish, and is dishwasher-safe. The peeler's handle is shaped for a firm grip, is weighty enough to provide control, and has a hole to facilitate hanging on a hook or peg. The blade is 2-1/4 inches long. Overall, the peeler measures 7-1/2 inches long. KitchenAid says the first year of the peeler's lifetime warranty against defects is hassle-free; the company will ship a replacement at no cost and without question if a defect is detected. --Fred Brack

5.0 out of 5 stars The best peeler ever, March 12, 2003

I have always hated peeling potatoes and other vegetables, and so when I knew it was my turn to make Thanksgiving dinner, I decided to see if an expensive peeler would make a difference. I bought this one and absolutely LOVE it. I can't believe that a simple peeler could make me so happy, but after all those hand and arm cramps from my old metal peeler, this one makes all the difference in the world. I can peel potatoes in 1/3 or less of the time that I used to, and it requires absolutely no effort -- the blade is so sharp that if you put pressure on it, it'll take off more than just the skin of the vegetable you're peeling. When I had to peel 15 potatoes for dinner, it took 5 minutes and so little effort. It's also ergonomically comfortable, and I love the fact that KA includes a plastic cover for the blade. This is one of my favorite kitchen gadgets (who would have ever thought you could get joy from something so simple??) and I'm constantly buying it for friends who cook...Read more

You should probably know that although this is the most exceptional peeler I've ever used, and although it completely removes the pain from the chore of peeling vegetables, it does have a downside. Regrettably, it has caused fighting amongst family members during holiday meal preparation. The best solution is probably to buy two if you ever have helpers in the kitchen, or just resign yourself to gracefully relinquishing "the good one" to family members and guests, and asking that they take turns, to avoid those unfortunate holiday "incidents."

This thing works so well that you will never again dread peeling vegetables--it's over before you know it--and so easy that you're almost disappointed when you don't have more to do.

5.0 out of 5 stars More Great Products From Kitchenaid, June 16, 2002

Man, this is a great peeler. It will be the last one you buy, so toss out all those old, cheap ones. I got this peeler along with the lemon zester in the double pack and it is great. I would suggest you get the double pack since it is like buying one and getting the other for free. Kitchenaid products are great products for the not so good cook like myself. I feel like a gourmet when I use them.
