There seem subtle differences in a commercial smoothie maker you see at the juice bars and one of these. But If you want a smoothie like those there is a reason you pay $400-800 for a true commercial mixer and one of these. This Kitchenaid is Great and can handle some quality blending. My wife and I had been looking for a good blender for several months. After reading most of the reviews on a lot of blenders we decided that we would give this one a try. The initial impression was that it was big... but strong and sturdy big not bulky big. After trying it out on a smoothie our impression was that it handled ice cubes better than expected. We have been using it now for several months and it has not disappointed in its performance. Overall we are quite satisfied with this product.
