I had the older Hamilton Beach immersion model (Turbo Twister) and it lasted for many years. The only problem with that one was the plastic shaft eventually cracked. For Christmas this year I asked for the fancy Bamix hand mixer, but I took it back after a month. The Bamix is extremely heavy (the website says 2lbs but it's at least 7), didn't blend any better than the Turbo Twister, and because you have to change the blades out I was always putting my fingers on them but forgetting to unplug it: potential Emergency Room tragedy!
After web-shopping for weeks, I settled on getting this HB 59765 model with a stainless blending shaft. This blender is lightweight and inexpensive and it does the job like my old one. I didn't think I wanted or needed the included mini-chopper, but it has turned out to be very handy.**see update** The chopper is actually fairly large, probably 5 or so inches tall and wide. Like the older model, the accessories twist on and off very easily and you...Read more

I purchased this Hamilton Beach hand blender as a replacement for my 200 watt Braun whose motor died suddenly after a few years of perfect use. The Hamilton Beach does a poor job of pureeing soups, which is my main use for it. While the Braun easily pureed an entire pot of lentil soup in mere seconds, the Hamilton Beach leaves chunks and takes several minutes of pulsing to even remotely puree. Further, the chopping bowl attachment has begun to leave bits of black plastic in the food that I chop. I can't even chop an onion without little black plastic bits eroding away into my food. Poor quality and poor performance overall.

Due to my distaste for the Hamilton Beach blender, I purchased a GE hand blender at the same price point and there is a world of difference in the performance. I just pureed a large can of diced tomatoes in about 25 seconds - a task that the Hamilton Beach took a few minutes to accomplish. Avoid this junk and do some research on better quality hand...Read more

I had another Hamilton Beach hand blender that also had whisk or blend option. The problem with that model was that the buttons for speed selection began to flake out after a year of occasional usage. I liked having the use of both tools so I thought this newer model would be better, especially with the attachment being able to go in dishwasher.

Well its not at all what I expected - larger motor than really necessary which also makes it heavier for use. The worst thing is the 'oily' smell related to the motor when it works. At first I thought it was just a break in issue, but it has continued after several uses so I am now looking for another blender model.

I am sad that the Hamilton Beach brand has fallen so much. I have my mother's 1950s Hamilton Beach stand mixer and still use it all the time! The motor remains strong with lots less power used than this hand mixer - what happened to good engineering? Probably got replaced by bean counters and marketing.
