Product Review

The Delonghi Metropolis Electric Kettle has a Sleek, Attractive Metropolis design. It beautifully compliments any kitchen décor. There is a three level safety system. The unit will automatically shut itself off when water begins to boil, the kettle is lifted from the base, and when the kettle is empty. The Electric Kettle with it's 1500 watts of power, boils water quickly. There is an easy to read Water Level Indicator to know exactly how much water is left.

Amazon.com Review

Italian-made and sleek in structure, the DeLonghi Metropolis electric teakettle boils water in mere minutes. Better still, the powerful 1500-watt heating element is concealed in a flat disk base that allows for 360-degree rotation and easy cordless serving. Crafted with a stainless-steel interior, the kettle rests comfortably on the base and turns on with a simple plastic depressor button. For safety, a three-way system guards against overheating and boiling dry--it shuts off the kettle automatically if you lift it, if the water boils, or if it is empty. DeLonghi also includes a washable screen filter to keep impurities and deposits out of your tea.

Arced and rounded, the kettle's handle is comfortable, and the spout is sharply turned to prevent drips and splashes. A clear water level indicator shows minimum, maximum, and liter markings. Fashionably finished in graphite with chrome and black accents, the kettle is a handsome countertop staple. The on/off button could be a bit more durable, but its use is simple and straightforward. Resting on its 8-inch base, the kettle stands 10 inches high and holds 58 ounces or 1.7 liters. It includes tidy power cord storage, a power indicator light, and a one-year warranty. --Emily Bedard

1.0 out of 5 stars Defective design, February 21, 2006

Owned this item for about 2 years.
First, the little plastic handle on the cap falls off, because its fragile plastic, into which it is screwed, soon crumbles under the steam temperature. Then, the water level indicator develops a crack inside, where it touches the kettle's metallic surface, through which water leaks profusely. In less then two years, by which time the 1-year warranty is expired, the kettle becomes unusable. There are no replaceable parts, and no further help is forthcoming from customer "support," except for a quote for another copy of the same.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute but Heavy, October 26, 2005

It's very cute, and has large capacity, but I found it just too heavy and awkward. Because the handle is on the side instead of on the top (like the great, but late & lamented Russell Hobbs kettles) it doesn't balance well, and you are having to lift the whole weight of kettle and water. It's also very noisy. And somewhat hard to fill. I liked the water level indicator on the outside. If you're strong, or would like a little home weight-lifting exercise built into your day, this kettle would be fine.

I returned this and got the Chef's Choice kettle, which is smaller, but handles much better. And it's very fast, (and loud) which somewhat makes up for the small capacity. It is easy to fill, very well-made, and has a very well-designed pouring spout.

2.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful lemon, March 27, 2006

One extra star for the looks - but it is not only the looks we are after, aren't we? It worked well for about a year and a few days. In other words, it stopped working at about the time its warranty expired. In the meantime, it also managed to destroy my cabinet since it forgot to shut off properly. No more DeLonghi in my house, I am sorry.
