Designed in Italy, the DeLonghi Metropolis with its matte charcoal-gray finish adds a distinctive European touch to any kitchen. At 0.5 cubic feet, the oven is just the right size for toasting six slices of bread (four if large) or broiling two steaks. The oven measures a compact 17 by 13-1/2 by 9 inches, and fits handily on a countertop. Two side handles make carrying easy. Three dials in a retro metallic look grace the front of the unit: one for broil or bake/toast, one to turn the oven on and set toast color to dark or light, and the third to choose temperature, which ranges from keep warm to 450 degrees F to toast/broil. With a stay-cool handle, the glass door swings down to open. Features include a ring at the end of the cooking cycle and automatic shut-off for safety. The oven includes an enamel 9-1/2-by-11-inch bake pan, enamel 9-by-10-inch broil tray, a wire rack, handgrip to remove the rack when hot, a crumb tray, and an interior light. I owned two DeLonghi's previously and after a brief affair with a Cuisinart TOB-30 I am back for good. None of these ovens are perfect but the DeLonghi does more things right than anything else on the market.
First, let me address some comments of the previous reviewers. Yes, the timer is a little weird. But it is like the ignition system on a Saab, a little quirk that you put up with in light of the rest of the machine. The earlier reviewer misspoke when saying you could only bake by cylcling through the timer in 4-minute intervals. They didn't know how to work it properly. You just turn the dial to the LEFT to the ON position and it stays on as long as you like. (The windup timer is primarily for toasting.) The timer is noisy and sounds old fashioned, which is the main reason I tried the Cuisinart with an electronic timer system. Guess what? -It broke in less than six months in a smoky and dangerous fog. The wind up timers on my DeLonghi's have all lasted about...Read more

I received this terrific DeLonghi Metropolis EOM1230 toaster oven as a gift, and it is the best of its kind I have owned. This is not the 1st DeLonghi appliance I have used. Their products seem to be uniformly excellent and I highly recommend them. The toaster oven design is elegant and complements any kitchen decor. The oven measures 17 by 13-1/2 by 9 inches, and easily fits on a countertop. There are 3 dials on the front right-hand side: one for broil or bake/toast, one to turn the oven on and set toast color, and the third to select a temperature. The toaster oven is easy to use and easier to clean - a Big plus. The Removable Crumb Tray allows you to easily dispose of crumbs, unwanted food particles and drips and drabs. An adjustable thermostat keeps the oven temperature uniform. The toast color selector, for dark or light, and end-of-cycle signal have ensured perfect toast every time. There is enough room for six slices of bread to be easily toasted at once.

Purchased this toaster oven from Amazon and it's really the best toaster oven I've ever owned...no more Black & Decker (or the $30 ones). The toaster and oven are very efficient, it's solid, heats thoroughly and looks great. I'm very pleased with it. Also, Amazon had the best price, no sales tax and free shipping.
