Usually Black and Decker is very reputable but I was a little disappointed in this blender. I wanted one that had a glass jar which this one does which is great. But the motor is loud and it had a hard time blending frozen bananas (bananas!?) Anyway, I guess I was comparing it to the Braun I was using which I love and went back to after using this one a couple times. After discovering it was struggling with the frozen bananas (bananas!?), I never tried using the ice crushing feature. Oh well, back to the Braun.

This is a decent blender depending on how much you'll be using it. I've gotten more than two years of use, but the plastic gear drive is wearing out, with about 5-7 uses per week to make smoothies. The gear drive is the black piece underneath the blade that interlocks with the base/motor. The Black & Decker 77666 blender blade cutter can be replaced for $15-$20, but this seems to be a common problem among other users, so once it goes, I will probably just upgrade to a sturdier blender with an all-metal gear drive (like an Oster brand). UPDATE: A couple of months after writing this initial review, the motor blew out. No more B&D blender!

I do like the sturdy glass jar, and the blades are sharp, although large frozen strawberries sometimes get stuck underneath the blades so I either leave them to defrost a little or pile them on...Read more
